“The Market”

The mission of “The Market” (farmer’s market) is to support local entrepreneurs, especially those in our church body, and to reach out to our community by providing goods and services, as well as a comfortable, family oriented, and inviting gathering place.

For vendors only, we are asking for a $10 donation for using the church property and to help offset any advertising cost for The Market.  If you would like to reserve a spot for your booth please email Jenni Johnson.

Below is a list of Items, and types of vendors we are looking for to help make “The Market” successful.  This list can also be used for creative ideas if you are contemplating a booth at The Market.  It is important to contact Jenni as soon as possible if you would like to have a booth since space and vendor selection is limited.  The Market is free to the public and convenient parking and restrooms are available.

  • Baked goods (breads, cookies, pies, cakes, cup cakes, doughnuts)
  • Produce (local fresh whole produce, a little early but there is an opening) It is not to late to get that garden in and bring your produce to market.
  • Canned goods (there are some special laws and regulations, but if you make a killer salsa bring it down)
  • Food Vendors (special license required)
  • Plants (house and flower/vegetable garden)
  • Fresh cut flowers/Flower pots/patio containers
  • Paintings, pottery, wood crafts, lawn ornaments
  • Jewelry (headbands/hair products)
  • Hand made items (if you can sew the options are limitless: bags, purses, baby clothes, dog clothes, blankets, etc.)
  • Honey/Bee products
  • Animal cookies!! (Yes, cookies for animals. I know my little guys love the homemade dog cookies from 2nd Street Market. The internet is full of yummy recipes. Well I haven’t tried them, but Sammi Johnson says they are yummy.)

There are a couple of rules that the government has in place. Simple rule: if you are selling cottage foods (baked goods, popcorn, whole produce, anything that does not require refrigeration, such as fresh meats or dairy) you DO NOT need a vendors license. You are covered under the Farmers Market registration with the state. However, you do need to have a label (typed or handwritten) that states the ingredients and that the food is a home produced product. The health inspectors will come to visit the market.

If you are selling something OTHER than cottage foods you DO need a vendors license and the cost is $25.  (link for the Vendor license information  http://www.mcohio.org/government/auditor/vendor_license.html )

If you have no interest in being a Vendor but know someone who might be interested please let them know about this opportunity. We want to make sure Vendors are complementary and not in direct competition.

We are also looking for volunteers to man a general information booth. This booth would contain information concerning the church and the different programs that we have at the church, such as children’s ministries, SLaM, J-SLAM, INSTE, care groups, as well as information on those church members who have service based businesses and do not have a product to sell. We want to support the entire church body.
